Current Research Lab MembersThe brainstem dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN) utilizes multiple neurotransmitter systems in mediating a variety of brain functions such as stress, anxiety, depression, sleep, feeding, pain and nociception.
The background of this research focuses on Locus coeruleus (LC) is a bilateral brainstem structure. We need more text in this area.
The long-term goal of this research is to define the effects of acute and chronic MDMA exposure on serotonin (5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE) efflux and the operation of sensory pathways in the mammalian brain using in vivo microdialsys and extracellular recording techniques.
Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a behavioral disorder afflicting 3 to 5% of all children; approximately 2 million children in the United States alone. The abililty to maintain vigilance or sustained attention is known to be disrupted in patients with ADHD.
The primary research focus of my laboratory is to understand the role of the central monoaminergic systems in brain function and behavior. More specifically we are concerned with the anatomy and physiology of the brainstem noradrenergic and serotonergic efferent systems as they relate to the sensory processing capabilities of the organism.
